Our partner, Jean-Marc Thouvenin, advises and assists Ukraine in the arbitration case initiated by the European Union regarding its measures related to certain Ukrainian export restrictions on wood products.
Ukraine and the European Union are parties to an Association Agreement which aims at the establishment of a free trade area between their two territories. By adopting two export restriction measures, in 2005 and 2015, the European Union considers that Ukraine violated the international obligations it assumed under the Agreement.
Hearings before the Arbitration Panel were held on the 22nd and 23rd of September, during which Jean-Marc Thouvenin presented Ukraine’s oral statement with Ms Olena Zasypkina, the Deputy Director of the Department for Domestic Producer Defence of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, and Roman Protsyshyn, from Ilyashev and Partners Law Firm.
